Dwight Howard Signs With Puerto Rico’s Guaynabo Mets

Former NBA All-Star center Dwight Howard’s basketball career will continue in 2024. On Friday, the Mets de Guaynabo of Puerto Rico’s first-tier league, Baloncesto Superior Nacional, posted on Instagram that Howard had joined the team.

The news comes two years after Howard’s most recent NBA stint with the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2021-22 season. He signed last year with the Taoyuan Leopards of the T1 League in Taiwan, where he was named to the all-T1 League first team, T1 League All-Defensive first team and earned the Most Valuable Import award for 2022-23.

Howard, the No. 1 pick in the 2004 NBA draft by the Orlando Magic, played for seven different teams throughout his NBA career. The 38-year-old averaged 15.7 points, 11.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks over 1,242 NBA games while shooting 58.7% from the field.

A three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Howard was named to eight NBA All-star teams and won a championship with the Lakers in 2020.
