Dwight Gayle has penned a heart-warming farewell to the Newcastle United supporters after his six-year stint with the club came to an end with his move to Stoke City confirmed. The 32-year-old made 122 appearances for the Magpies, scoring 34 times, and his efforts in that promotion season have him in good estimation with the Newcastle faithful despite playing a bit-part role for the club in recent seasons.
Gayle joins the Potters in the Championship on a two-year deal, managed by former Newcastle player Michael O’Neill in search of more regular first-team football, having barely featured for the Magpies last season. The forward took to Instagram to write some closing thoughts on his time on Tyneside, thanking the club and supporters for making him and his family feel at home straight away in Newcastle.
Gayle said: “Thank you so much to @nufc and the city itself. I’ve loved my time here, and you really have made me and my family so welcome throughout. I wish you all the best in the future and look forward to watching your successes.”

Some of the former Crystal Palace forward’s former teammates also reacted to the news of his departure on social media. Former Newcastle midfielder Isaac Hayden, who also left the club this summer, joining Norwich City, said: “Pleasure to play with for so many years. All the best and see you this season.”
Newcastle captain Jamal Lascelles also said his goodbyes to Gayle, saying: “What a guy! Been a pleasure bro.” Fellow defender Federico Fernandez added: “All the best Dwight.”
His departure is the fifth at the club this summer, as Eddie Howe continues to offload unfavoured squad players to shape a fresh squad for his first full season in charge of the club.
