Actor and former WWE superstar Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson has congratulated an Irish distillery for its win at the 2022 Wine Enthusiast Wine Star Awards.
Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin, produced by The Shed Distillery in Co Leitrim, came out on top in the spirit brand/distiller of the year category in Wine Enthusiast magazine’s annual Wine Star Awards.
The popular Irish gin took gold, beating out stiff competition in the category, the shortlist for which included brands such as Buffalo Trace, Woodford Reserve and Ardbeg, as well as Dwayne Johnson's Teremana Tequila, reports Buzz.ie.
Gracious in defeat, the Hollywood star reached out to The Shed Distillery to congratulate all involved on the remarkable accolade for Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin.
"Big congratulations Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin on your award. That’s a big one!" Johnson tweeted on Friday afternoon.
"I look forward to trying your Irish gin! Like us at Teremana, I can see you guys are a passionate brand and proud distillery. Congrats again!!"
The Shed Distillery was founded in the mid-2010s by the husband and wife team of PJ and Denise Rigney. Nowadays, it employs dozens of people as the distillery's reputation continues to soar globally and the popularity of its products grows.
In the years since launch, the Rigneys have opened a visitor experience centre, gift shop and cafe on the site of the Leitrim distillery.
The Irish Times reports that Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin, which is one of the fastest selling products in the premium category, is now available in more than 60 countries around the world.
As well as Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin, The Shed Distillery also produces vodka and single pot still Irish whiskey.
