Dwayne Johnson amusingly responds to backlash over his new wax figure

Dwayne Johnson has candidly shared his thoughts about his new controversial wax figure.

The Musée Grévin in Paris recently unveiled a wax figure of the former WWE star on Monday 16 October, prompting many people on social media to point out how little the sculpture actually looks like him. On Sunday 22 October, the actor took to Instagram to share his own thoughts.

Johnson re-shared to his Instagram a video from comedian James Andre Jefferson Jr, in which the wax figure was roasted.

“You know Black a** Samoan The Rock? That’s how Paris thinks he looks,” Jefferson Jr said in the video. “They turned The Rock into a pebble!… it looks like The Rock has never seen the sun a day in his life… You make The Rock look like he David Beckham. It looks like The Rock is going to be a part of the royal family. Did y’all even Google him?”

The actor joked about the video as his caption read: “Knew my boy James Andre Jefferson Jr had this Rock wax statue in his roasting crosshairs.” He also pointed out his favourite line from the comedian happened to be “is this how y’all felt when you lost the Little Mermaid?” before adding that he “legit belly laughed at this”.

“For the record, I’m going to have my team reach out to our friends at the Grevin Museum in Paris France so we can work at ‘updating’ my wax figure here with some important details and improvements — starting with my skin colour. And next time I’m in Paris, I’ll stop in and have a drink with myself,” he concluded.

Last week, many comments on social media focused on the complexion the artist used for Johnson’s wax figure. Fans were quick to point out that the Hollywood actor is of Samoan descent, but the wax figure’s skin tone was made to appear much lighter than in reality.

“This is white Rock,” one person commented on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Wayne ‘the white’ Johnson,” another person joked on the platform.

Some fans assumed the wax figure was intended to be used for another celebrity, such as his Fast and Furious co-star, Vin Diesel. “The Rock ft Vin Diesel,” one person, who believed the sculpture resembled a combination of the two stars, wrote on X.

Another commenter agreed, writing: “Vin Diesel and The Rock made a baby.”

Others were convinced the sculpture was meant to be Mr Clean, the cartoon mascot for the cleaning product brand of the same name. “That ain’t The Rock, that’s Mr Clean,” one commenter posted.

“MR CLEAN MR CLEAN MR CLEANNN,” another person joked, along with a GIF of the character.

Another wax figure recently revealed by Madame Tussauds was Travis Barker’s wax figure at its Las Vegas location on Sunday 22 October. Unlike Johnson, he was pretty impressed by the strong resemblance.

“Woah! This is insane,” the Blink-182 drummer said in a video shared by the attraction, later adding, “I’m honoured. I’m flattered. I’m shocked. It looks so f***ing real.”

The video also featured Barker FaceTiming his wife, Kourtney Kardashian, who had a similar reaction. “Oh my god,” she could be heard saying in the video. “Honey, it looks so real,” Barker replied. “Isn’t it crazy, baby?”
