DVLA releases millions of 72 number plates for drivers to personalise today

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) has released millions of 72 series number plates for drivers to get a personalised registration.

Close to eight million new registrations have been added to circulation, with many names and words available to buy for the very first time.

It offers drivers the rare chance to buy a special personalised number plate, with prices starting at £399, according to DVLA.

DVLA allows drivers to search through all of these new additions and find your perfect 72 series registration on its website from Wednesday, May 4.

The DVLA makes £160million a year from people splashing out of personalised registrations, but is very strict when assessing requests.

A blacklist of number plates that are deemed too rude for the roads was been revealed by the DVLA last month.

While personalised plates can provide us with a giggle, certain combinations are banned because they are just too embarrassing and offensive.

Every March and September, the DVLA blacklists certain number plates so that mischievous drivers cant get swear words or rude phrases on their cars.

A total of 343 have already been banned by the motoring body, with many plates refused because of offensive language or for political, racial or religious reasons such as mention of the devil.

New banned combinations have been added to a list of plates that drivers should never be allowed to get, including any that end with the three letters ARS, BUM or SEX. Covid related number plates have also been banned, including CO22 RNA, CO22 ONA and CO22 VD.

The Daily Record can't publish all the words, but among them are F22 KER, BA22 TRD, A22 HLE, and TU22 URD. Also removed from use this year were S22 LAG, DR22 NK and BO** MBS.
