DVLA issues update on driving licence application and log book waiting times

Delays with processing postal driving licence applications are ongoing, and the DVLA has released an update on processing times.

Those who apply for new driving licences, or to renew their existing licence, by paper and not online are subject to the delays. The DVLA encourages people to apply online instead, MEN reports.

"We are still experiencing delays with paper applications," says the DVLA.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and our staff are working hard to reduce waiting times. There may be additional delays in processing more complex cases, for example, if medical investigations are needed as part of your driving licence application."

There are no delays with the online application process, the DVLA says, and it encourages drivers to apply for licences online.

The DVLA adds: "This is the quickest, easiest, and often cheapest way to deal with us. We recommend that you use our online services where possible. If you apply online, you should receive your driving licence or vehicle registration certificate (V5C) within 5 days.

Below are the dates of claims the DVLA says it is now working on. If you sent your paper application after those dates, then "please do not contact us as it has not been processed yet," says the DVLA.
