The DVLA looks set to update their rules on eyesight within a number of weeks, according to current reports.
Optometry Today says the DVLA will release updated guidance on its list of notifiable eye conditions, reports Surrey Live.
The Association of Optometrists had initially raised concerns over the conditions list that apply to almost every driver who has an eye test.

If adopted, the new rules would mean that almost every driver who wears glasses would need to report themselves to the DVLA.
Adam Sampson, chief executive for the AOP, said: “We’ve continued to have an open dialogue with the DVLA on this important issue to work towards a pragmatic solution for our members, patients and the DVLA.
"The move is sure to remove an unnecessary administrative burden for practitioners but also alleviate worry for many patients."
The DVLA is said to have reviewed the list of notifiable conditions, and consulted with the Secretary of State for Transport’s Medical Advisory Panel on visual disorders and driving.

In October 2022, the rule was that if vision was a factor in an accident, then a £1,000 fine and three points would be expected to be issued to the driver.
This would only be issued if the driver had not notified the DVLA of the condition prior to the incident. In more serious cases, it could result in a driving disqualification.
That rule looks set to be changed in accordance with new calls for the rules to be reviewed.
