A man accused of intentionally killing a father of two during a "horrendous" domestic violence attack in Darwin has faced court.

Eliasoa Thomas Wasaga, 51, appeared on Wednesday in the Northern Territory Local Court via video-link.

He is charged with murdering a 54-year-old relative and no application for bail was made.

Wasaga's alleged victim was found seriously injured at a flat in the city centre on April 8, with police saying the attack may have happened in the early hours of the morning or the night before.

The man died from his injuries in Royal Darwin Hospital last Wednesday, prompting police to launch a murder investigation.

Wasaga is accused of attacking his victim with a blunt weapon leaving him with severe injuries to his head and torso, and defensive wounds.

Wasaga and the dead man were flatmates. A woman also in the apartment when the attack happened was Wasaga's girlfriend, police have previously said.

She and Wasaga allegedly reported the incident to a worker at a nearby service station, who then alerted police.

Detective acting Senior Sergeant Michael Budge has previously told reporters the incident was a "horrendous act of domestic violence".

He said officers were confronted by a terrible scene when they arrived at the unit.

The matter was adjourned to June 29. Wasaga was remanded in custody.
