Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez has his hopes pinned on a move to Manchester United, according to a Dutch football expert.
Erik ten Hag had started the summer with Jurrien Timber as his number one defensive transfer target. However, in recent weeks it has come to light that Timber is wary of making the switch to the Premier League due to fear that he may miss out on a place at the World Cup should he not get regular playing time.
His defensive partner Martinez is now thought to be on Ten Hag's radar having also impressed United's boss last season in Amsterdam. Marcel van der Kraan, head of De Telegraaf's sports section, believes that Martinez would welcome a move to Old Trafford.

Van der Kraan explained: "Martinez is very high on Erik ten Hag’s wishlist, so I expect big developments in the next 24 or 48 hours. Martinez will also have his hopes pinned on United, who are an absolute top club for him.
"Ajax will really cash out for Martinez and go to €45-50m, but that is the advantage if two clubs bid, as we saw with Lyon and Manchester United, then it suddenly goes higher." Van der Kraan is referencing United's hijacking of the Tyrell Malacia move to Ligue 1.
MEN Sport understands that deals in principle have been agreed for Malacia and Frenkie de Jong to join the club this summer.
