Dustin Poirier has claimed Nate Diaz will retire from the UFC.
Poirier and Diaz had both claimed they would meet in the cage before the end of their careers having seen their 2018 clash postponed.
The lightweight rivals looked set to clash later this year - but Diaz appears to have closed the door on the fight by hanging up his gloves.
Asked by a fan who he will fight next, Poirier replied: "I wanted to fight Nate this summer but just found out he's hanging them up. We'll see what's exciting in the future."
Diaz had earlier taken to social media to lament the lack of opponent for what would be the final fight of his UFC contract.
"Been trying to fight for seven months," he wrote before calling out Conor McGregor for a trilogy bout.
Diaz and McGregor have long been expected to complete their trilogy having swapped wins and losses in their two bouts in 2016.
McGregor is currently recovering from the broken leg he suffered against Poirier last summer and is eyeing a return later this year.
He called out welterweight champion Kamaru Usman last week but the Nigerian is expected to first defend his title against Leon Edwards.
A trilogy bout with Diaz at 170lb could have served as an eliminator for a shot at Usman.
Diaz made his UFC debut in 2007 when he won The Ultimate Fighter and went on to win his next four fights before suffering back-to-back defeats.

His results have often fiip-flopped between wins and losses but he was rarely in a bad fight.
But Diaz has only one win to his name in his last four fights, a points win over Anthony Petis in 2019.
He went on to lose to Jorge Masvidal and then took another extended break before he was outpointed by Edwards last summer.
Diaz has also been a target for YouTube boxer Jake Paul who has long called for a boxing fight with the Californian.
