Dustin Johnson's £27m LIV earnings is more than he has ever won during a PGA Tour season

Dustin Johnson has already earned more in his LIV Golf season than any of his PGA Tour campaigns, despite only playing six events. Johnson was named LIV's inaugural individual champion on Monday, following a tied-15th finish in Bangkok last weekend.

The American has dominated the series' maiden campaign, with his finish in Thailand the first time he has finished outside the top 10 at a LIV event. His other five top 10 finishes also include a victory, after he prevailed in a Boston via a play-off last month.

In becoming individual champion, the 2020 Masters champion winner collected a cool £16 million bonus to take up his season winnings to £27 million in just six events.

Remarkably his tally for the campaign stands at more than he ever won in any of his 16 PGA Tour seasons, which included two major victories, five World Golf Championships and one FedEx Cup crown. Johnson's £27 million also adds to the eye-watering £113 million that he reportedly received in signing on fees when joining the Saudi-funded circuit.

Upon being named champion on Monday, the 38-year-old described becoming LIV's first ever champion as an 'honour'. He said: "Locking up the individual competition is big. It’s an honour to be LIV’s first individual season champion.

"I’d like to thank Greg Norman and LIV for their confidence in me, my brother and caddie Austin, my wife Paulina, my Four Aces teammates Pat, Patrick, and Talor, as well as LIV’s growing legion of fans around the world. Our team is in a really good position with two events to go and I’m looking forward to further contributing to LIV Golf’s exciting story and continued growth.”

Remarkably Johnson's lucrative earnings are set to grow even bigger, with two events still left to play in both Jeddah and Miami later this month. The circuit's CEO Greg Norman paid tribute to Johnson upon his crowning this week. He commented: "The first chapter of LIV Golf’s history could not be written without Dustin Johnson’s name.

"By any measure, DJ is among the elite players in the world. From the start, he’s been a LIV Golf cornerstone. He has more than lived up to his billing and he deserves immense credit for clinching LIV’s first individual season title. We look forward to a celebration befitting such a champion in Miami at the end of October.”
