Most Manchester United supporters have been disappointed that the club have not been able to bring anyone in during the January transfer window, but whether that changes remains to be seen.
The MEN understands that it's unlikely that United will dip into the market for any new incomings. Still, fans are hoping something may develop due to the number of outgoings currently taking place.
With the likes of Donny van de Beek and Jesse Lingard being tipped with moves out of the club, fans have been crying out for the club to make a move for a central defensive midfielder, but that looks like it'll only happen in the summer.
It's evident that a new number six is needed at Old Trafford, but the focus on this position also feels like it's distracted people from some of the other issues within the squad.
With the departure of Anthony Martial (be it only on loan to Sevilla), United are now short of a striker, which could pose an even bigger problem in the summer transfer window.
You see, United also need to find a new number nine. There is a possibility that Martial could leave permanently at the end of the season, after confirming the future is uncertain in his unveiling;
He said: "My loan move to Sevilla is valid for next five months, end of the season… but you never know what happens in the future. We'll see."
If Martial does leave permanently, United will be very light up top, especially when you also factor in that Edinson Cavani is expected to leave at the end of the season.
It means that Ralf Rangnick or the next permanent manager need to be active in the market for a striker, but that could prove trickier than some people think.
There were the apparent links to Erling Haaland, who will probably be the biggest transfer saga of the summer, seeing as every club wants him. However, there's a feeling he doesn't want to join United, and while he has a reported £62.5m release clause, it's looking increasingly likely that it's a race between all of Europe's elite.
That ensures United would have to look at other options, and there was one man who fits the bill, perhaps even more so than Haaland.
His name is Dusan Vlahovic, and in Serie A, he's been on fire this season.
So far, the Serbia international has scored 17 times and assisted on two occasions in just 21 Serie A games this season, which caught the attention of a host of top clubs across Europe.
It was expected that he'd leave in the summer and seemed like the perfect Haaland alternative for United to go for. Still, they've been dealt a blow as reports have suggested that Juventus have agreed to a £62.8m fee for the striker to move in the winter market.
If United want to go for an elite-level striker, there's not that many around. Of course, many emerging talents will be available, but that would mean the club would have to dip into a market they haven't gone into for a very long time.
Ed Woodward has always overseen what's been known as the 'obvious' targets to go for, but with John Murtough now taking hold of all football matters, he's going to be tasked with finding the appropriate striker.
Vlahovic was a great alternative, but now he isn't available. It remains to be seen who United go for.
Jonathan David of Lille and Alexander Isak of Real Sociedad seem like two solutions Murtough could explore.
Whoever United choose, the Vlahovic deal has posed a big transfer problem as there are no obvious choices. It'll be interesting to see who they go for.
