Dusan Vlahovic criticised for taking the 'easy way out' after rejecting Arsenal transfer

Following both Manchester United and Tottenham dropping points this week, with the former most recently today in their draw against Southampton, Arsenal have had a great week in their pursuit of a top-four finish.

The Gunners managed to take all three points against Wolves on Thursday night, in a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

Whilst Mikel Arteta's men showed resilience and incredible character in the last 20 minutes of the game after Gabriel Martinelli's controversial sending off, it could have been a more comfortable ending had captain Alexandre Lacazette taken his chance after Gabriel Magalhaes put the Frenchman clean through on goal.

Lacazette's struggles goalscoring-wise could be what prevents Arsenal from securing a place in next season's Champions League.

It's one of the reasons why the north Londoners were incredibly keen on strengthening their centre-forward options, with Dusan Vlahovic heavily linked with a move to north London.

The Serbian has been in tremendous form over the past two years, illustrating sheer ruthlessness when opportunities are presented to him and is currently the joint top scorer in this season's Serie A.

Whilst Arteta was very keen on bringing the 22-year-old to England, Vlahovic decided to sign for Italian giants Juventus, where he has already managed to impress, scoring on debut against Hellas Verona.

But ex-Arsenal player and now pundit Paul Merson believes that the player chose the easy option.

"They wanted Vlahovic and he chose to go to Juventus," Merson told Sky Sports.

"For me, I think he took the easy way out, going to a team who were great and now fourth/fifth in the Italian league and a million miles away.

"For me, if they'd got him they'd be a shoo-in for the Champions League, now they've got to do their own work again and they've put all their eggs in one basket."

With Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah the only two recognised strikers Arteta has at his disposal, the Spaniard will certainly hope that both can provide an influence and chip in with a few goals at the very least from now till the end of the season.
