Dunnes Stores urgently recalls popular chicken product over health fears

Dunnes Stores has pulled a batch of a popular chicken product from sale over health fears.

A food safety alert was issued on Wednesday morning about the supermarket’s Free Range Irish Chicken.

Health officials say one batch of the chicken product was not labelled correctly and therefore has incorrect cooking instructions.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland said: “Dunnes Stores is recalling the above batch of its Free Range Irish Chicken as the product weight is not labelled correctly. Therefore, the cooking instructions on the label are incorrect.

“Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batch.”

The affected product is 1700g, with the approval number IE 814 EC and a use by date of 18 Sep 2022.

Dunnes Stores Free Range Irish Chicken recall (FSAI)

It’s the latest food product to be recalled by the FSAI in recent days.

Last week, a batch of Haagen-Dazs Duo Vanilla Crunch Collection Ice Cream was pulled from sale due to the presence of the unauthorised pesticide Ethylene Oxide.

The popular ice cream treat was for sale in many Irish supermarkets.

The FSAI explained: “The above batch of Haagen-Dazs Duo Vanilla Crunch Collection ice cream is being recalled due to the presence of the unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide. Ethylene oxide is a pesticide that is not permitted for use in foods sold in the EU but is approved for use by other countries outside the EU.

“Although the consumption of the contaminated product does not pose an acute risk to health, there is an increased risk if there is continued consumption of ethylene oxide in contaminated food over a long period of time. Therefore, exposure to ethylene oxide needs to be minimised.

“Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batch.”

The affected batches have a best before date of 23/3/2023.
