Dunnes Stores issues urgent recall for popular food product over safety fears

Dunnes Stores has issued a recall for a popular food product over safety fears.

The alert is in place for a batch of Baxter & Greene Smoked Salmon Pate.

One batch of the 185g pack size is subject to the recall due to the "possible presence of plastic pieces".

The products impacted by the recall are those with a use-by date of 17.03.2022.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland shared the recall notice on Tuesday, and confirmed that they were sold in shops in the Limerick and Galway areas.

They said that point-of-sale notices will be displayed in stores that sold the affected batch.

The notice reads: "Dunnes Stores is recalling the above batch of Baxter & Greene Smoked Salmon Pate due to the possible presence of plastic pieces.

"The implicated batch was sold in some stores in Limerick and Galway areas.

"Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the affected batch."

It comes after earlier this month Dunnes issued a recall notice for popular cherry tomato products due to "serious illness" fears.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland warned that specific batches of Dunnes Stores Semi Dried Cherry Tomatoes are being recalled over "a potential risk to health" by long-term consumption of the pesticide chlorpyrifos.

The FSAI said: "[Certain] batches of Dunnes Stores Semi Dried Cherry Tomatoes are being recalled due to the presence of the pesticide chlorpyrifos which is no longer approved for food use in the EU.

"Although the consumption of the implicated batches of Dunnes Stores Semi Dried Cherry Tomatoes is unlikely to pose an immediate risk to health, continuous consumption of chlorpyrifos over a long period of time may pose a potential risk to health.

"Therefore, exposure to this substance needs to be minimised. Point-of-sale recall notices will be displayed in stores supplied with the implicated batches."

The products affected originated in Belgium and have use-by dates of April 21, 2022; May 6, 2022; and May 20, 2022.
