Dunkin' Donuts announce opening date for new Mansfield drive-through

Dunkin' Donuts are set to open a new shop in Nottinghamshire - the first in the county and third in the UK to have a drive-through. The new outlet in Mansfield will open on Monday September 26.

The finishing touches are being made to the purpose-built store on land, south of Ransom Wood, in Mansfield. The site is to the north east side of Southwell Road West (A6191), a key gateway to the town.

Dunkin' Donuts sells sweet treats including Mr Happy, Blue Sky Ring and Boston Crème. Shops in Nottinghamshire are located at Exchange Arcade, Lady Bay Retail Park, Alfreton Road, Radford, Wilford Lane Retail Park and Harland Way, Worksop.

The US chain was started in 1950 by William Rosenberg who had an epiphany that people loved to dunk their doughnuts in their coffee. The new Mansfield shop is the 25th in the UK. Special celebrations for opening day are expected to be announced next week.

Plans for illuminated signage, recently approved by Mansfield District, were met with one objection. The complainant said: "Southwell Road West is a key gateway to Mansfield, and should be an attractive advertisement into what the town is about. Pollution and rough scrubland which should be properly landscaped as an entrance to the town. No civic pride. No hint of a historic market town. No consideration for the health of its residents - follow the bright and shiny junk food signs."

However planners said the objection was a "personal opinion" and the signage would give character to what in effect is a box-like structure. Dunkin’ Donuts would stand to the side of the dual carriageway of the A6191 along with a number of other large corporate concerns and the commercial/industrial buildings which provide the character along this particular stretch of Southwell Road West.

"Given the context of surrounding development there is no objection regarding the impact of the proposed signage on the visual amenity of the area."
