Gabby McGill feared the worst when he fractured his shin back in December, but is delighted to be back playing for Airdrie, and hopes to have put his injury problems behind him.
The 21-year-old netted twice as Airdrie led Clyde 2-1 at Broadwood on December 18, only for the game to be abandoned after 70 minutes due to thick fog.
Striker McGill had taken a nasty knock in the process of rifling Airdrie ahead two minutes into the second half, and it turned out that he had fractured his shin.
McGill made his comeback on February 26, climbing off the bench to score in the 1-1 draw against Clyde, and is delighted to be back in the first-team frame as Airdrie head to Falkirk this afternoon, aiming to extend their 12-game unbeaten run as they chase the League One title.
He told Airdrie's website: "When it first happened I thought the worst, I was in a lot of pain.
"I ended up going for a scan and it turns out I fractured my shin in three places, one of them being quite deep.
"That was a bit of a bitter pill to swallow.
"However, you would rather fracture your shin than do a ligament, in terms of time to come back. Within eight to nine weeks I was running again, so it wasn't too bad."
McGill scored his fifth goal of the season in that draw with Clyde a fortnight ago, and played in the 2-0 win at Alloa last weekend, with Callum Smith netting a brace.
The Engishman said: "It has been great in the past couple of weeks, training every day and getting minutes on the weekend - that's why you're a footballer, it's why you play.
"I was obviously excited to start a game [against Alloa] and I felt good, I felt sharp. I maybe did hit a brick wall about the hour-mark, but I was speaking to some of the lads and they reminded me that it was my first start in 11 weeks!
"It's going to come, and I'll get fitter and stronger and everything like that."
Having lost 2-1 in the opening fixture between Airdrie and Falkirk this season, Airdrie won 3-0 at the Falkirk Stadium and 3-2 at New Broomfield in January, and McGill knows what to expect today.
He said: "I think Dycey [Callum Fordyce] came out and said a couple of weeks ago that every game's a cup final for us now.
"We all know the quality that Falkirk do possess, and the players that they have - they can just turn it on.
"They've got creative players in that midfield, they've got people who can just score goals out of nowhere, so we definitely need to stay clued up and make sure we get the job done.
"We've done all right against them this year, so hopefully the same again. All the boys are confident, with a good week of training under our belt, and we'll go again on Saturday."
