At times, longtime former NBA guard Kenny Smith can feel a bit like the odd man out among the Inside the NBA panel.
Host Ernie Johnson is one of the legendary broadcasters of his generation. Analysts Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley were Hall of Famers. Where does that leave a player like Smith, who cracked the 17-point-per-game threshold just twice in a decade-long career?
On Friday, Smith claimed a distinction that none of his fellow TNT fixtures have achieved: he was named a style icon by actor Timothée Chalamet.
In a sitdown with Elle, Chalamet discussed his admiration for Smith’s mode of dress.
“I’m gonna go with Kenny ‘The Jet’ Smith, on Inside the NBA on TNT,” Chalamet said. “He has varying style, but he’s also very bold and confident about when he just wants to rock sneakers with a suit—and I admire that.”
Chalamet, who attended the Los Angeles Lakers’ 123–109 win over the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 9 in the in-season tournament final, is currently promoting the March 1 release of Denis Villenueve’s Dune: Part Two.
