Dundee unveil plans for new stadium as club release concept art

Dundee have unveiled plans for how their new stadium could look at Camperdown Park.

Owners Tim Keyes and John Nelms recently purchased Dens Park from Dundee United director John Bennett and they now intend to sell the land to fund their new stadium.

The site would include 120-room hotel, as well as fitness and wellbeing facilities, plus a housing development.

A club statement read: "The owners of Dundee Football Club are today giving fans a glimpse of the future with the release of an exciting new design concept for the Camperdown Stadium Development campus.

"The vision has been created by Holmes Miller Architects, who earlier this year were appointed by the club to work on the stadium design, in collaboration with Dundee-based LJRH Architects.

"The new stadium will have an expected capacity of more than 12,500 supporters. The design concept released today will be sure to capture the imagination of fans of all generations as the club aim to enhance the matchday experience and provision within the multi-use venue, which will also host music concerts and other major entertainment events.

"Plans include a safe standing area in the home end, installation of state-of-the-art LED screens, and tiered hospitality offerings for all fans to enjoy as part of the experience, including a 250-capacity brewhall.

"Dundee fans will also notice the subtle but significant nod to Dens Park, the club’s home since 1899. Incorporated within the distinctive main stand entrance is the iconic ‘chevron’ design, in homage to the unique dimensions of the Main Stand at Dens created by the legendary architect Archibald Leitch.

"Tim Keyes and John Nelms, owners of the club and Dark Blue Property Holdings, are leading the project team for the stadium and mixed-use development at Camperdown.

"A Planning Permission in Principle application (PPiP) will be lodged imminently, covering the proposals in detail and with consultation with key stakeholders, including supporters, to follow.

"The stadium will be the crown jewel of a sport and entertainment campus which will also include a 1000-plus multi-use event space, a 120-room hotel with health and wellbeing facilities, a residential housing development, and other commercial and multi-use facilities.

"The club are also committed to playing their part in achieving Net Zero through sustainable design elements within the stadium and campus wide, including a cycle hub, dedicated bus terminus, and EV charging hubs, whilst also using innovative energy storage solutions.

Managing director John Nelms added: “The project team have been working with an extensive planning and consultancy team to ensure we have a robust business case and project evaluation prepared for the local council as part of the Planning Permission in Principle process.

“We want to make Dundee Football Club and the stadium campus project a key part of the city’s regeneration and we have been encouraged by comments from the council that they are committed to helping remove barriers and working with developers to accelerate projects that will help the regeneration.

“We look forward to working in partnership with the council throughout this process and want to give Dundee fans a stadium befitting our future ambitions, one that is viable seven days a week through various entertainment and event offerings – in addition to cheering on the Dark Blues.

“It is our commitment to a bright and sustainable future for our club and the city and we are excited to share a glimpse of what that future will look like. We hope that as well as exciting fans, the visualisation of the new stadium shows we are determined to honour our history and heritage and make sure Dens Park, which has been our spiritual home for almost 125 years, can inspire the design of our new home and shape the club’s future.”
