Dundee United’s ‘Changing Room’ scheme that promotes men’s mental health is making a huge difference to people’s lives in the city. The initiative run by the club’s Community Trust is delivered in partnership with SAMH - the Scottish Association for Mental Health.
It has been made possible thanks to funding from the Movember Foundation and support from the SPFL Trust.
The 12-week programme started in April and uses football to bring men aged 30-64 together on their home turf - Tannadice Park.
The Trust’s website says the men can ‘join in with some banter but also to talk about what’s really going on’ in their heads.
The basic ethos of the initiative is ‘to promote men’s mental health and wellbeing through the power of the beautiful game.’
Writing online, a spokesman for the scheme said: “We all love a blether about the football, whether it’s pre-match tactics, the team selection, or post-match analysis with your pals, but men also need to get the stuff that’s bothering them off their chests.
“The Changing Room gives them the opportunity to step down from the stands into the heart of the club, with access to parts of the stadium they don’t normally have the chance to see."
