Dundee United prospect 'scouted by Celtic' as possible Cummings replacement

Celtic scouts watched Dundee United Owen Stirton last weekend, according to reports.

It's claimed Tosh McKinlay was in attendance to see the striker in action for Montrose.

The 18-year-old - who has six goals in eight games on loan - made his debut for United in September 2023 and has eight appearances for Jim Goodwin's side.

Stirton scored his only goal for the United top team back in September last year in a 3-0 win over Ross County.

Stirton played the full 90 minutes for Montrose in the 0-0 draw against Kelty Hearts on Saturday with Celtic interest in the stands.

It's thought Stirton is under contract at Tannadice until the summer of 2027.

The Daily Record reports Celtic have Stirton on their radar as they are set to lose Daniel Cummings at the end of his contract.

The Celtic prospect will move to West Ham United in the summer at the end of his current deal at Lennoxtown.

It's reported Celtic are considering replacements for Cummings with Stirton a name thrown up as a possible external candidate.
