Dundee United crack down on Celtic fans in home end as more than 100 tickets cancelled for Tannadice clash

Dundee United have cancelled more than 100 tickets from Celtic fans trying to crash Wednesday’s potential title party.

The Tannadice club have refunded dozens of briefs bought online for the home section for the clash with the champions-in-waiting.

The Hoops have already sold out their away allocation and another additional 200 hospitality tickets but that hasn’t been enough to satisfy the huge travelling demand.

Ange Postecoglou ’s side will clinch the Premiership title if they take a point from their trip to Tayside or if Rangers fail to beat Ross County.

United are looking to chase down a Europa Conference League place and will do that if they remain in the top five, but a lot of the time home crowds are down when the big two come to the City of Discovery.

That is the case again and Celtic supporters have tried to snap up home tickets in a desperate bid to see their heroes clinch the title.

United staff and security have gone through the histories of all ticket purchases and that has led to more than a 100 transactions being cancelled and money being refunded.

Security will also be beefed up inside and outside the stadium on Wednesday and any Celtic fans known to be inside the stadium will be ejected.

A United statement read: "Dundee United have cancelled a number of tickets for Wednesday’s match with Celtic following a thorough investigation of all purchases for the Dundee United sections of Tannadice.

"A refund has been offered on all cancelled tickets and barcodes on these tickets have been voided.

“These tickets will not work on the turnstiles. Supporters attempting to use voided tickets will be denied entry.

“Celtic’s allocation for this match is completely sold out and online sales for all areas of the stadium have been suspended.

‘For this match we will be conducting an outer security perimeter and supporters will not be permitted to enter the turnstile zone without producing a valid match ticket.

“Anyone found to be in the wrong section of the ground will be ejected with arrangements in place to ensure the safety of all supporters.

“These decisions have been taken in consultation with our ticketing staff, matchday operations team, Celtic and Police Scotland."
