Dundee United boss Jack Ross outlines reason behind transfer of ex-Hibs star Steven Fletcher

Jack Ross has hailed the capture of Steven Fletcher as a huge asset on and off the park as Dundee United snapped up the former Hibs star on a two-year deal.

The 35-year-old joins Dylan Levitt in putting pen to paper with the Tannadice outfit as they get ready for a European adventure in the Europa Conference League. Former Hibs boss Ross is starting to put his stamp on his new squad as the hard work gets underway ahead of the new domestic campaign at the end of July and their Euro qualifiers.

Fletcher, who has featured 33 times for Scotland, finding the net on ten occasions, has scored over 250 goals in his career to date and will be aiming to increase that number during his time with United. Speaking about his new recruit, Ross said: “To bring a player of his experience will be a big asset both on and off the pitch.

"The level of quality he has shown throughout his career makes him a really exciting addition, and we are really looking forward to getting down to work.”

Sporting Director Tony Asghar told Dundee United's website: “I am delighted to secure Steven's signature. He is a player we have tracked for a while and to attract a player of his calibre and experience is exciting for the Club.

"Steven has a proven track record in the Premier league, Championship and on the international arena and he will help us continue to drive Dundee United forward.”

Fletcher started his career with Hibs before moving down south with Burnley.

He then turned out for Wolves, Sunderland, Marseille, Sheffield Wednesday and latterly Stoke City before making the move back north to Dundee United.
