Dundee’s Soundbase Summer Slam looking for talented youngsters

Bosses of this year’s Soundbase Summer Slam in Dundee are looking for the city’s brightest young talent.

Applications have opened for musicians aged between 12-18 for places on this July’s event at the Caird Hall.

Soundbase offers participants the opportunity to work with a team of professional musicians.

Paul "Lefty" Wright, Euan Ross, Callum Mackie and Mary McInroy are this year's tutors and will help young people learn new skills to improve songwriting, guitar playing, drumming, keyboard, band skills and performance.

Creative Scotland is also supporting the addition of two guest artists Su Shaw - SHHE, who will be exploring Soundscapes and Scott Donald, drummer and music technologist.

Moira Methven, Chair of Leisure & Culture Dundee said: “It's great to welcome back Soundbase after being on hold for nearly three years due to the pandemic.

“We have a fantastic programme for young musicians to get involved with and it's all free, thanks to support from Creative Scotland's: Recovery Fund for Organisation and Leisure and Culture Dundee.

“Those interested don't need any experience, just plenty of enthusiasm."

Callum Mackie, Soundbase Summer Slam tutor said: “We're coming back stronger than ever and working with some great musicians.

“We're bringing a little bit of everything for these sessions and want everyone to feel really welcome, refreshed and are starting back with a fun, strong and great energy for the Dundee music scene."

Places are FREE and booking is essential.

The event is supported by Creative Scotland's: Recovery Fund for Organisations to enable cultural organisations, working primarily for public benefit, to rebuild and create opportunities to increase their financial resilience after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Soundbase Summer Slam runs Monday 25 July - Friday 29 July 2022, 10 am-4 pm, with a gig on Friday 29 July 2022, Marryat Hall.
