Dundee man in hospital after unprovoked attack on trio by gang of youths

A young man has been left in hospital after he and two women were targeted in an "unprovoked" attack by a gang of youths in Dundee. Tayside cops are appealing for information after the incident took place at around 10.50pm on Sunday July 10.

Police say the trio were assaulted by a group of four youths on West Marketgait near the Lidl on South Ward Road. Emergency services attended and the man, 20, was taken to Ninewells Hospital for treatment. The two women, aged 18 and 19, were uninjured in the incident.

Officers are appealing for information in identifying the attackers. The first suspect is described as a white male, aged 16-18, of skinny build, about 6ft tall with short dark hair and wearing a grey or black tracksuit.

The second suspect is a white male, aged about 16 or 17, about 5ft 9-10in tall, of skinny build and was wearing a black baseball cap and all black clothing. The third suspect is a white female, aged about 16 or 17, about 5ft 5-5ft 7in tall, of skinny build with bleached blonde hair with brown roots in a ponytail and was wearing all black and was walking a pitbull style dog.

The fourth suspect is a white female, aged about 16 or 17. She is about 5ft 4-5ft 5in tall, of chubby build with long dyed black hair and was wearing black cycling shorts and a pink/purple coloured top.

Constable Andrew Weir, of Dundee West Bell Street Police Station, said: “These attacks have been completely unprovoked and our enquiries are ongoing to trace those responsible. I urge anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any information about the suspects to please contact officers.

“I am also appealing to motorists with dash cams, who were in the area around the time of the incident, to check their footage. They may have unknowingly captured images which would assist our investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 4064 of July 10. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
