A computer programme has recreated the streets and houses of Lochee from the 1940s.
The free phone App brings parts of the Dundee community that have long been knocked down, back to life.
The interactive 3D recreation gives users a sense of what it was like to live, work and socialise in 1941 in an area of Dundee known locally as ‘Tipperary’.
The area housed many of Dundee 14,000 Irish immigrants and was a collection of approximately 20 houses between Marshal Street and Athol Street.
The App - that is free to download - was produced by Konglomerate Games and is called ‘Tipperary.’
It will officially be unveiled at the Lochee Community Library on Tuesday 19th April.
Describing the project, a spokesman for the company said: “This project was envisaged as a digital love letter to Lochee from its ain folk who fondly remember streets and places that created the community that made Lochee special.
“We have created a digital 3D interactive Tipperary which was the beating heart of Lochee , using the AR technology to bring long demolished streets back to life.
“The genesis was photographs and memories curated by the Lochee local history group , our ambition was to bring back memories of streets full of working people going about their lives.
“Today Lochee is stigmatised , the social problems are there for all to see but beneath the surface there still flickers a sense of pride in what used to be and hope that it can be restored.”
And they added: “We hope that the Lochee diaspora flung far and wide in the US , Canada and Australia will take advantage of the technology and come home to Lochee if only for a few minutes by using the App.”
The App places the user in the shoes of Robert Gallacher - a 10 year old boy sent to Lochee from his home in Clydebank.
Staying with his great Aunt's family in 1941, it's a normal sized family for the time and place - maybe 7 people of various ages inhabiting the small house, it was cramped.
His life has been uprooted and he is a stranger to the area.
He will be slowly discovering the area and what his life will be like there.
