Dundee Kingsway shut after horror two-car crash leaves mangled vehicle down embankment

A horror crash closed one of Dundee’s busiest roads for over an hour last night.

The two car smash happened on Kingsway West at about 10.30pm on Sunday.

Two fire engines and other emergency vehicles rushed to the scene close to the BP garage near the Liff Road after the incident.

A picture taken from the scene showed a white vehicle badly damaged, down an embankment at the side of the road.

The windows appeared to be smashed and debris was scattered across the road.

Locals reported that a driver fled the scene following the crash.

One shocked eyewitness said: "The driver took off. There was no sign of them anywhere.

"There were kids toys all over the road and beside the car.

"The car was really badly smashed but there was no driver to be found."

The road was shut with diversions put in place while the casualties were recovered and the scene was cleared.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We received an alert at 10.30pm on Sunday January 16 to a two-vehicle crash on Kingsway West close to Liff Road.

“Two fire appliances from Macalpine Road station were despatched to the scene to assist and to help in the clean up.

“Both crews were later stood down at 11.23pm.”

Police Scotland have been approached for a comment.
