Dundee could be the first city to ban disposable vapes after an MSP backed a Daily Record campaign.
Mercedes Villalba, Labour’s environment spokeswoman, also urged contenders vying to replace Nicola Sturgeon to ban the devices Scotland-wide.
Dundee is considered a hotspot for dumped single-use e-cigs by campaigners – with council chiefs backing them being outlawed.
It comes after we launched our Bin the Vapes campaign last month calling for disposable e-cigs to be banned after Scotland’s streets became a dumping ground.
Villalba, who lives in Dundee, just like Health Secretary Humza Yousaf, said: “What I would say to Humza is that the review into the products is absolutely welcome, and I understand that will include looking at a ban.
“But I guess I’d want him - or whoever becomes our next first minister - to show confidence in the proposal and in the city.
“And they should join me in calling for Dundee to be the first pilot city for a ban on these disposable vapes.”
The North East MSP added: “It's brilliant to see publications such as the Record using their platform for good, really taking the climate crisis seriously and looking at what can be done to help."
A Scottish Government spokesman said: “It is important we take the time to consider the evidence and expert advice and come forward with policy options, which could include a potential ban on single-use vapes.”
