Dundee City and Angus are Scotland's most dangerous places for drivers

Dundee City and Angus have been named as Scotland’s car accident hotspots.

They produced the lowest ‘safe driver score’ according to the latest research.

The report follows significant changes to the UK’s Highway Code that were introduced last month.

Experts at Quotezone.co.uk analysed road and car accidents statistics from across the country and created a ‘safe driver index score’ out of 100 to rank each region according to how careful their drivers are.

They pulled together statistics from government transport websites in four main areas:

- The number of road casualties (fatalities and injuries) per million population.

- The number of accident vehicles per 100,000 registered vehicles.

- The average casualties (fatalities and injuries) per accident vehicle.

- Average accident severity.

Dundee City and Angus produced a ‘safe driver score’ of just 38.18 out of 100.

The regions had 140 casualties per million people and 326 accidents per hundred thousand vehicles.

The performance in the overall safe driver score is severely impacted by an average casualty per accident vehicle of 0.81.

The figures are the tenth highest in the UK, and enough to make Dundee City 31st for the UK regions with the worst drivers.

The two best performing regions of Scotland were Renfrewshire with a score of 65.03 and Edinburgh at 59.90. Glasgow City scored 45.7 out of 100.

Blackburn received the lowest safe driver score of all regions in the UK with just 16.78 out of 100.
