Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more scary in the city - the Dundead 2022 line-up gets announced.
Bosses of Dundee’s cult horror film festival have warned this year’s selection is packed with ‘gloriously gruesome’ films from around the world.
Organisers are celebrating the tenth instalment of the iconic event at the DCA.
There will be horrifying previews, spine-tingling premieres and a gloriously gruesome deep-dive into the cinematic world of vampires.
Taking place from Thursday 28 April to Sunday 1 May , it’s kicking things off with the traditional Dundead Film Quiz, putting punters’ horror film knowledge to the test for the chance to win some creepy prizes.
Then, over the weekend, they’ll be bringing audiences six brand new scares alongside six classic vampire tales.
These include the best new horror highlights with special preview screenings of We're All Going to the World's Fair - an intriguing and timely found footage nightmare from writer-director Jane Schoenbrun and Dashcam - Rob Savage's provocative and gory follow-up to Zoom horror smash Host.
Also on the menu is Ultrasound - a stylish, disorienting sci-fi horror, and Good Madam - a haunting story from South Africa filled with supernatural and real-world horror.
Organisers are also excited to bring fans the Scottish Premiere of smart and strange Straight to VHS and the UK Premier of disturbing and beautiful Latvian horror Upurga.
Running alongside the new films is a retrospective of some of the best vampire films from the last 100 years.
These include FW Murnau’s silent masterpiece Nosferatu, Bill Gunn's Ganja & Hess and the iconic action-horror Blade.
Dundead programmer Michael Coull said: “Our last full festival line-up was in 2019, so it’s really exciting to see Dundead back at its full strength – hopefully Dundead audiences have missed us as much as we’ve missed them.
“As our tenth festival, there’s something for all kinds of horror fans in this year’s programme – it’s a suitably eclectic line-up!
“There’s no substitute for the cinema experience, and I think that’s especially true for a festival like Dundead, where audiences can see previews and premieres for films which probably won’t be getting full cinema releases in the UK, and of course, see some cult favourites from years gone by, back on the big screen.
There’s a sense of community that comes with horror that I think is really special and if you have never been to any Dundead events before but are considering coming along, we’d love to see you!"
