A cast and crew of almost 200 people are to take to the stage at Stirling’s Macrobert Arts Centre in a bid to smash a world record for the fastest ever theatrical production.
Members of Dunblane-based Rubber Chicken Theatre (RCT) will tread the boards on Sunday, February 20, as they aim to set a new Guinness World Record.
The record was set in February 2020, when they performed an entire production, from the opening of the script to the final performance, in just 11 hours and 59 minutes.
The company shaved just over two-and-a half hours off the previous world record set by Stage Right in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, USA, less than a year prior.
However, the record has since been claimed by another theatrical group, from Spain, and now the members of Rubber Chicken Theatre are hoping to smash the record again.

A spokesperson for RCT said: “We always knew our record would be broken at some point, that is after all why they exist, and we fully congratulate them on their achievement.
“However with the massive difficulties the arts have faced over the last few years, and losing the title so quickly after achieving it, we decided we couldn’t just let it go. As such, we are absolutely delighted that we are attempting to take it back; and take it back we will – bigger, brighter, bolder, and faster.”
The current record stands at eleven hours and nine minutes and RCT are aiming to take a massive hour and nine minutes off of it. That means just ten hours from opening a box of scripts for a show that they have no idea what it is, to curtain up in a full house at the Macrobert with a full-scale show – including band, costumes, set, tech, lights etc, all of which must also be prepared completely within the timescale.
The spokesperson added: “The excitement amongst our little performing arts family is huge already. With performers as young as eight through to retirees and a massive support crew it really is a huge community effort. Alongside our returning participants, we’re welcoming new family members that have joined us during the pandemic and cast even coming from as far as Denmark.
“As before, we will be joined by a Guinness World Records adjudicator to hopefully verify our successful attempt at the end of the show.
“In 2021, in a year the arts stood still, we performed eleven separate shows: virtually, outdoors and indoors, and have battled with everything from flying cars to disappearing cakes, giant elephants to real dogs. It’s clear the RCT family are no strangers to a challenge, but this is most definitely our biggest, or perhaps fastest, yet.”
