Dumfriesshire charity champions hand worthy causes £9,000 from multicultural ball

A pair of charity champions have handed over £9,000 to worthy causes thanks to the success of their latest multicultural ball.

Dumfriesshire deputy Lord Lieutenant Hardip Atwal of Annan and Lochmaben’s Graham Smith provided a fabulous third dance at the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries recently after the disappointment of it having to be cancelled last year because of the pandemic.

The amazing evening was well supported and raised £8,900 – their biggest amount yet.

The pair were delighted this week to hand over bumper cheques to Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes and the Care of Police Survivors (COPS) charity.

Graham said: “Myself and Hardip rounded up the amount to £9,000, so that was £4,500 for each fantastic charity.

“Thank you one again to everyone that came to our ball and those who donated money and prizes to help raise this fantastic amount. See you all at our next ball, which will be in 2024.”

Hardip said: “This wouldn’t have been possible without the tremendous support we received from people coming along on the night and we thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

“We are also grateful to the Easterbrook Hall team and staff, everyone who gave us raffle donations and bought tickets, the Bombay Blues of Glasgow who provided the three-course Indian meal, and our photographer Phillipa Leslie of Pipscape Photography.

“We thank, too, our fabulous entertainers, including Dumfries piper Harry McGowan, Bhandra Roots drummers and dancers, Bollywood dancers Desi Nach, dancer Bakri Punjabans, and DJ Baz.”

The duo raised £7,800 for Care of Police Survivors and Cash For Kids with their first multicultural ball and their second, in 2019, raised £2,735 each for Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes and the COPS charity.
