A “flashmob” really caught the attention of lunchtime shoppers in Dumfries High Street on Monday.
The outbreak of spontaneous dancing had a serious side, launching a new bid to persuade people across the region to take more exercise.
Members of the public, school children and doctors joined in.
The Plainstaines workout was also used to introduced DG Doing More – an initiative originating from Dumfries and Galloway Physical Activity Alliance.
The Alliance is led by NHS Dumfries and Galloway and Dumfries and Galloway Council with the aim of persuading everyone to do more exercise for their wellbeing particularly after Covid lockdown.
A spokesperson said: “Following the pandemic, many people have been shielding, not meeting others, unable
to take part in regular exercise.
“This campaign is aimed at everyone – to get out and do more.”
The first week of the initiative, which is to have a website, will also see the launch of the Chalkstacle Course Challenge – a series of fun “chalked” activities outside schools and workplaces.
