Dumfries supermarket offers Hogmanay warm up to people feeling lonely

A Hogmanay “warm up” is being offered to anyone feeling alone in Dumfries tomorrow.

Morrisons community champion for the town, Myra Smith, is throwing open the doors of her new community room offering a hot drink and a snack or shortbread, and the chance to share some companionship between 11am and 1pm.

The warm room gesture is being sponsored by Dumfries Lions Club.

Myra said: “We know that people will be feeling lonely but we are inviting people to come into the store and share some time with others.

“Don’t be alone, come along into our warm community room, have a hot drink and snack or shortbread with us.

“We also have a 2022 quiz to keep us busy.

“All are welcome and it is for any age and is free.

“The room is at the end of our cafe by checkout number one.”

The new community room opened at the beginning of the month as part of the refit programme in store.

Throughout 2023 it will be freely available for charities and non-profit groups to use for meetings and private business during Morrisons’ opening hours.

Other organisations are welcome to use the room for a small donation. Tea and coffee facilities are available along with wi-fi.

To book the space contact Myra via email at: championdumfries@morrisonsplc.co.uk.
