Dumfries supermarket offering free meal to those in need

A helping hand is being extended in Dumfries to families and individuals in need of food and heating.

People are rallying to do what they can for those in need in the community with acts of kindness.

Morrisons community champion, Myra Smith, is urging anyone in need of a free meal to call into the Dumfries store’s cafe and “Ask For Henry”.

She said: “Until November 27, we are giving a little helping hand to anyone – something Heinz founder, Henry Heinz, was known for.

“Anyone needing a hot meal for free just has to come into our cafe and say ‘Ask For Henry’ and they can get a free warming and hearty jacket potato and beans on us, no questions asked.

“It is one per person, per day.”

In addition, The Pantry, based at The River of Life Church, Lovers Walk, Dumfries, is offering parents with school-aged children a selection of free filled rolls and sandwiches to take away if they drop-in every Friday between 12.30pm and 1.30pm.

There is also a chance to pick up free warm winter clothes, coats and blankets for adults and children to help keep the chill out next week, as well as school uniforms.

Dumfries and Galloway Council is opening a Pop-Up Shop in The Press building in the High Street across from the Midsteeple on Thursday, November 24 from 9.30am to 5pm, and on Friday, November 25, from 9.30am to 7.30pm.

If your organisation is anything to help those in need through the current economic climate, email sharon.liptrott@reachplc.com or call on 07769658024.
