Young activists gathered outside the council headquarters in Dumfries on Friday as part of an international day of action to combat climate change.
School pupils went on strike as part of the Fridays for the Future campaign, initially started by Greta Thunberg, to make their voices heard.
They are calling for faster government action to tackle rising temperatures around the globe.
The demonstration outside the council HQ was one of 46 held in the UK and 800 worldwide.
Dumfries Academy student Stella Duncan said: “This is part of the Fridays for the Future movement and today is a global day of action.
“It’s taking place in Glasgow, Edinburgh and even as far as Texas.
“School pupils are a large chunk of those taking part but anyone can get involved.
“We need to take action now and listen to the science and keep the temperature increases around 1.5 degrees Celsius.”
Fridays for the Future’s website lists three demands they make of those in power to tackle climate change.
They are to keep the global temperature rise below 1.5 °C
compared to pre-industrial levels, ensure climate justice and equity and listen to the best united science currently available.
A total of 215 countries and 116 million strikers took part in the protest on Friday.
