Dumfries public consultation on plans for £45 million village at Ladyfield

A public consultation on two wheels is coming to the Crichton and Kingholm this weekend.

Representatives of The Crichton Trust and Collective Architecture, which are behind ambitious plans for a new £45 million village complex on former NHS land at Ladyfield, will travel to a meeting with the community on a bike.

The Cargo Bike will contain artist impressions and information about the proposals which could see the first “care campus” created in Britain.

A public consultation inviting views on the masterplan for the inter-generational village is currently under way.

But on Saturday the project leaders and design team will go to residents who live near the proposed site which sits adjacent to the Crichton.

Starting at 10am on Glencaple Avenue the bike tour will then move along Kingholm Road before arriving in Kingholm Quay at around 12.30pm.

The travelling consultation will then move up Glencaple Road and back to the Easterbrook Hall for 4.15pm.

A poster advertising the event reads: “Meet The Crichton Trust and Collective Architecture as they tour the communities around Ladyfield to hear what matters to you locally.

“This is your first chance to see our commitments for a future Ladyfield and help influence the masterplan.

“Look out for us across Ladyfield, we’ll be on our bike.”

The plans include 477 homes for people of all ages including students and infrastructure facilities and amenities with a primary school, shops and a health centre.

Older people will be at the heart of the community, living side-by-side with students, families and workers at the site who will all “look after each other”.

The project team is hoping to see building work on the development starting within the next five years.
