Dumfries nightclub to welcome RuPaul's Drag Race UK star for ultimate drag party

An ultimate drag party with a unique twist is being held at Dumfries’ Chancers Nightclub on June 3 from 9am until late.

Organised by Dillon Colthart’s Devine Tension Presents Ltd, the interactive cabaret called STEAMIN’: The Main Event, will feature Cheddar Gorgeous from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK.

Fifty partygoers will be able to meet Cheddar Gorgeous, with VIP tickets, from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, before the show – which promises to be “filled to the brim with fierce drag performance, tantalising vocals, camp comedy, and disco euphoria”.

There will be five artists altogether at the event, which is being held upstairs in the club, in Sophia Stardust, Frans, Madame Jo Mama, and the evening’s host, 25-year-old Dumfries drag sensation, Devine Tension.

After the show there will be “STEAMIN’: Perty Time” until 4am with DJ duo Calowae & Sorrell spinning the decks.

Dillon said: “The region has been gasping for an LGBTQIA+ arts and nightlife scene, particularly one which takes place regularly. With the success of events such as Club Queer, and the growing appetite for drag as a result of national platforms such as RuPaul’s Drag Race, it is simply time for our rural queer culture to expand in a big way.”

As Devine Tension, the drag star has been making waves on the Dumfries and Galloway nightlife scene since 2019, with a growing resume of LGBTQIA+ focussed events under independent events production company Devine Tension Presents, of which Dillon is creative director.

Previously popular events include Club Queer, Club Queer: Lipstick 90s, and Club Queer: RAW.

Dillon said: “The local drag nightlife scene within the region has been flourishing ever since, with the establishment of organisations such as The Hoose (a collective of queer performance art within Dumfries and Galloway ran by local drag sensation, Madame Jo) expanding upon the legacy of events such as Club Queer.

“STEAMIN’, at its core, is an intimate celebration of rural queer art. Having sourced artists nationally, as well as

locally, I have cast some of the most exciting, outrageous, and aesthetically mesmerising LGBTQIA+ performers on the cabaret scene right now, from the bright lights of Glasgow, London, and Manchester.”
