Dumfries Morrisons customers hailed for supporting Ukraine humanitarian appeal

Morrisons Dumfries community champion Myra Smith has praised all those who bought her “pick up” packs filled with new items desperately needed by Ukrainians taking refuge in Poland.

Over a three day period, Myra and staff encouraged shoppers to grab one of the bags – priced at different amounts so everyone could join in – and to pay for it at the tills with their groceries.

All the bags were then collected and taken to Dumfries refugee charity, MOOL, whose volunteers have been collecting and sorting donated items and funds for the Ukrainian people.

Myra said: “It was a fantastic effort from our customers from Dumfries and beyond.

“We also had buckets at the tills for cash donations and they have gone to the DEC Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal which is match-funded by the UK Government.

“Another popular idea which really took off was asking children and adults to draw pictures and write letters in English, Ukrainian and Romanian – using the translater on Google – which we have been able to pass on to go to the refugees to show our support.

“Thank you to everyone who helped and donated.”
