Panto is back at Dumfries’ Theatre Royal – oh yes it is!
The Guild of Players is busy rehearsing for its latest endeavour which is Alex Jackson’s pantomime version of the popular classic, Rapunzel.
The panto will run from December 3 to 17 – there are no performances on Monday, December 5 and Monday, December 12.
It will be the first time the Guild has performed this particular pantomime and enthusiasm is high, promising plenty of fun and the chance for the audience to cheer on the “goodies” – Rapunzel (Caitlin Wallace), Flynn (Ruairi McCormack, understudied by Kiera Clark), and the Dame, Penny Perm (Sandy McDougal).
And to boo the “baddy” Fairy Dreadlock (Rachel Reekie).
Other key characters are Fairy Hair-Do (Lorelei Lynn), King Quiff (Kirsty Wilson), Queen Quiff (Anne Aldridge), Britney Spurs (Scott Creighton) along with comedy duo Slap Ed and Brainless Bob who, at alternative performances, are played by Sarah Loveridge and Christie Breen and also Adam Black and Owen Kennedy.
The production team of director Ali Donowho, assistant direct/light and sound technician Ross Nurney and stage manager Hamish Bell, was so delighted with the volume of children wishing to be involved this year, that there are two casts of chorus children who are performing alternate nights from December 3.
Ali said “Everyone has worked so hard to bring Rapunzel together and our thanks go to all cast and backstage crew (including set painters and builders) for their hard work at each rehearsal, also to the staff at the Theatre Royal for their help with box office, marketing and publicity as well as all the volunteers who turn up year after year to welcome our theatre goers, to sell programmes and ice creams together with those volunteers on the bar. Thanks too must go to our sponsors.
“Everyone involved in Rapunzel hopes you enjoy this production and will support The Guild of Players, Theatre Royal Dumfries this Christmas.”
Set in the village of Brushington, Rapunzel’s parents King and Queen Quiff are hoping to marry her to a prince but she has other ideas when she meets Flynn.
He is the son of the village’s hairdresser, Penny Perm, and Flynn goes everywhere with his trusty steed Britney Spurs.
As usual, there’s a comedy duo Slap Ed and Bob to keep you laughing as well as a Good Fairy – Fairy Hairdo.
Tickets for the Pantomime are on sale now via the Box Office (01387 254209) or through the website at: www.theatreroyaldumfries.co.uk.
