Dumfries couple whose daughter died from brain tumour raffling flights for charities that helped them through worst time of their lives

A Dumfries couple whose teenage daughter died from a brain tumour are aiming to raise cash for charities that helped them through the worst time of their lives.

Gary and Kirsty Jardine’s daughter Brooke passed away at the age of 15 in 2019 after a brave eight-year battle.

The couple are now raffling off flight tickets to a luxury destination to raise money for Young Lives v Cancer.

And they are hosting a ball in aid of the paediatric ward at Dumfries Infirmary and Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.

Dumfries Academy pupil Brooke was treated in both facilities and the family was supported by Young Lives v Cancer.

The couple will reveal the winners of the flights the day after they take on the New York City Marathon in November.

Gary, 51, said: “In memory of our beautiful daughter Brooke, me and Kirsty along with my sister Nicola and brother-in-law William will be running/walking/crawling the TCS New York City Marathon on Sunday, November 6 to raise funds for Young Lives vs Cancer.

“Previously known as CLIC, it is an amazing charity which provided incredible and invaluable emotional and financial support during Brooke’s long battle.

“Every penny raised will go towards helping the charity support other children and young adults and their families with the incredible support to help them in their individual battles.

“A live draw for the flight tickets will be the following day.

“Just £20 buys a raffle ticket to win two completely free United Airlines tickets to a destination of your choice.

“For an optional bit of fun, anybody that can guess the combined finishing time for the four of us will win a £50 meal voucher.”

The marathon takes place two months after a fundraising ball that will mark what would have been Brooke’s 18th birthday.

Brooke’s Ball will take place at the Easterbrook Hall on September 3 in aid of Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity and Dumfries Infirmary paediatric ward.

Gary added: “It will be a very poignant night for us because when the clock strikes midnight, it will be Brooke’s 18th birthday.

“That event was supposed to be in 2020 for what would have been her sweet 16th.”
