Dumfries couple "tea up" novel theme to Greens pub

A Dumfries couple are “tea-ing” up a novel theme to the Greens pub with cocktails served from teapots.

Partners Cas Stalker and Liam Logue are the new bosses of the bar and restaurant in the town’s St Michael’s Street and are set to open the venue on Guid Nychburris Day next Saturday.

Cas said: “We are really excited and really tired at the same time.

“We have had a massive force of friends and previous co-workers, including one girl who worked in the pub before for 11 or 12 years, helping us out to prepare for the opening. We plan to have six or seven staff at the start then see how many the business requires as we go along.

“My partner Liam and I have been in hospitality before and can hardly wait to open the place up.”

Greens was a victim of the coronavirus pandemic and has been closed since November 2020.

Cas, 32, added: “I am a student nurse and have worked at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and at Mountainhall Treatment Centre, so I am still working as a nurse while helping run the place.

“I had relatives who actually ran Greens many years ago and now we are launching tea cocktails for two.

“We bought a whole lot of teapots at charity shops, car boot sales and there was a woman in Carlisle who collected them and sold us a bundle. And, of course, we managed to get some through Facebook as well.

“We have four new pool tables and there will be the traditional darts plus a compact menu of pub grub. We also have a new pizza oven coming in time for the opening so we can make our own fresh pizzas on the premises.”

She added: “We are using local people and local produce which is very important to us.

“It is good to see that Dumfries is picking up again and we want to support the local community.”

Liam, 33, said: “I did my university training to be a primary school teacher and did my probation at St Michael’s Primary just up the road.

“I am on the supply list, but teaching jobs are hard to come by in Dumfries.

“In the past I worked in the Corinthian up in Glasgow, Brown’s in George Square plus another couple of places and only came out of hospitality about a year and a half ago.

“We are planning to extend the beer garden once we are up and running and take it right down to the pathway at Dock Park.”
