A community radio station has been gifted ownership of a council building in Dumfries for just £1.
However, Alive Community Radio will have to hand back the keys to Lochside Enterprise Workshops in future if the station folds.
Councillors sitting on the finance committee agreed on Tuesday to the community asset transfer deal.
The council owns the building on Shirley Road but the charity radio organisation broadcasts from one of its units and is currently the only tenant.
While Lochside Enterprise Workshops has been valued at £62,900 by the council, the radio station team has invested money in it over the past two years.
Nithsdale area committee previously recommended the handing over of the building to Alive Community Radio, which had to be rubber-stamped by the finance committee.
Nith Councillor Malcolm Johnstone asked for clarity over the conditions of the community asset transfer.
Council officer Darren Burns replied: “In the transfer of the asset there will be conditions. If the organisation is wound up, it would return to the council.”
Alive Community Radio is a registered Scottish charity. While the present charity took ownership of the station in June 2019, most of the management team and volunteers have been with the station for considerably longer.
The station issued a statement welcoming the council’s decision.
It said: “The board of trustees of Alive Community Radio SCIO and all the presenters and members of Alive 107.3 are delighted that the community transfer of their new premises has successfully been approved and completed.
“We want to convey our sincere thanks to Dumfries and Galloway Council and to everyone who worked so hard and helped to make this possible.
“The Alive team looks forward to the future as it broadcasts and keeps the music playing for Dumfries and beyond, all from the comfort of our fantastic permanent home.”
