Dumfries-based crisis charity celebrates funding boost

A Dumfries-based crisis charity is celebrating a funding boost.

SHAX, based at the Crichton in Dumfries, has been awarded £41,272 from Nationwide Building Society’s Community Grants programme.

The charity supports people in crisis and those moving on from homelessness. The money will help fund staff costs over the next two years.

Welcoming the funding, manager Joyce Harkness said: “SHAX is delighted to receive a community grant from Nationwide Building Society and we really thank them for their support.

“Since re-opening after lockdown, demand for our emergency support has been through the roof and we are seeing more and more clients made homeless due to Covid-19. With this support we’ll be able to continue helping them get back on their feet.”

The not-for-profit social enterprise provides essential furniture and household items to people moving from emergency accommodation to a new permanent tenancy.
