Dumfries barmaid has bags of support for women's charity

Big-hearted Kim Kirkpatrick has launched an appeal for handbags filled with toiletries for Women’s Aid.

The Dumfries barmaid wants bags handed in at the two pubs where she works – The Ship Inn and Tam O’Shanter.

She said: “I saw the story online about Love Grace and their appeal and thought I would start one to help women locally in Dumfries.

“And people have already been very generous by donating handbags with a lot of toiletries which is great.

“I just ask that the bags are at least 30 inches long so they can take a few items.

“When I spoke to Women’s Aid in Dumfries they were all for it and very supportive.

“And I would like to thank the McCubbin family who own the pubs for allowing me to use the premises.”

Susan Bevan, depute manager of Dumfriesshire and Stewartry Women's Aid, said: "We feel honoured that Kim thought of our service and those who are going through domestic abuse.

"It's brilliant, absolutely brilliant what she has done and helping raise awareness of the cause."

The Love Grace appeal was launched by the family of Grace Millane, from Essex, who was murdered in New Zealand on December 1st, 2018, just a day before her 22nd birthday.

She had been travelling the world, but was killed by a man following a Tinder date.

He was jailed for 17 years after a jury unanimously found him guilty.

Now the Millane family have been running their campaign to help women affected by domestic violence.
