The Stewartry is gearing up to welcome top class cyclists this weekend.
The British National Road Championships will be taking place in Dumfries and Galloway over the next few days.
On Friday, Kirkcudbright will host the circuit racing with the road races being based in Castle Douglas on Sunday.
The Kirkcudbright action begins at 5pm with the women’s race, the men’s event getting under way at 7pm. There will be cycling related activities in Kirkcudbright from 2pm onwards including stunt bikes and pedal power photography.
Fans can follow the races live on GCN+, Eurosport Player and British Cycling’s YouTube channel, with highlights on ITV4 at 6pm on Tuesday, June 28.
The women’s road race will begin from Castle Douglas at 9am on Sunday with the men’s event – featuring Tour de France legend Mark Cavendish – under way at 1.30pm. Again, it will broadcast live on GCN+, Eurosport Player and YouTube, with highlights on ITV4 at 6pm on Wednesday, June 29.
British Cycling’s head of sport and major events Jonathan Day said: “We’re delighted to once again be able to offer extensive coverage of the championships to fans across Britain and further afield, helping us to further raise the profile of our major domestic events and showcase the unique thrills of time-trial, circuit and road racing in the beautiful surroundings of Dumfries and Galloway.
“While we know that all eyes will be on the racing, I’m sure that the harbour views in Kirkcudbright and the winding lanes of Castle Douglas will have many fans at home plotting their own trips to the region, particularly as it looks ahead to hosting the para-cycling road events at next year’s UCI Cycling World Championships.”
