Dumfries and Galloway forces charity boss has blooming good fundraising idea

A forces charity boss has come up with a blooming good fundraising idea.

Robin Hood has thousands of plant bulbs to sell in the run up to Christmas.

And by doing so he hopes to raise enough funds for South West Scotland RnR to put another two veterans through HGV driver training.

Robin, who lives near Mossdale, said: “There are daffodils, tulips and other flowers.

“The council has given me a space in the Midsteeple in Dumfries to use and I’m hoping to raise £5,000.

“Councillor Archie Dryburgh, who is the Forces Champion and also my vice chairman, has had a big part in securing this for us.

“We have the shop rent-free for four months and the community is now working together.

“The two people I get into work by selling these plants will get their pride and dignity back, but they will also come off benefits and pay income tax and council tax.

“And the council tax goes directly back to Dumfries and Galloway Council’s coffers, as well as getting our economy moving by delivering goods produced here.”

The bulbs are planted in pots with the message “This bloom helps ex soldiers bloom”, with the £2.50 price tag helping to fund an hour of HGV training.

Robin has helped nearly 70 former servicemen and women back into work by providing HGV training, which has also helped tackle a lorry driver shortage in Dumfries and Galloway.
