Dumfries and Galloway curlers chosen to represent Scotland in European Championships

Four Dumfries and Galloway curlers have been chosen to represent Scotland in the European Championships.

Kirkgunzeon’s Grant Hardie and Stranraer’s Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jnr will compete in the men’s event.

And Sophie Jackson from Dumfries will be part of the women’s rink when the competition gets under way in Sweden on November 19.

Hardie, Lammie and McMillan Jnr were part of Bruce Mouat’s rink that won the title last year before going on to win a silver medal at the Winter Olympics in Beijing. Dumfries’ Ross Whyte had been alternate on that occasion but his slot has been taken by 2018 Olympian Kyle Waddell while 2014 Winter Olympic silver medallist Michael Goodfellow takes on a coaching role.

Scotland’s women also won the European title last year, although that was a different rink – featuring Dumfries-born Vicky Wright – which went on to win gold in Beijing. Rebecca Morrison will skip the rink, featuring Jackson, Gina Aitken, Sophie Sinclair and alternate Hailey Duff.
