An appeal for volunteers at a Castle Douglas charity shop has borne fruit.
But Dumfries and Galloway Canine Rescue is still looking for helpers at their outlet in Dalbeattie.
The charity has six shops across the region and feared the Castle Douglas branch may be forced to close if more volunteers didn’t come forward.
But a plea on Facebook has paid off.
Marketing co-ordinator Emma Scott said: “We’ve had about 16 people which is a good response.
“Even if half those people want to do it after we’ve explained what’s involved and what hours we’re looking for, that would be pretty amazing. Hopefully there might even be people among them that can go over to our Dalbeattie shop as we’re still a little bit short.
“The joint managers are leaving so we’re looking either for a manager or two people who fancy the idea.
“We’ve had three members of volunteers who’ve left that shop in June, so we’re hoping with the people we’ve got for Castle Douglas we might be able to spread them out to Dalbeattie.”
Volunteer duties include handling stock, dealing with members of the public and using the till – although helpers may not have to do them all.
Any potential managers would have to handle rotas and take the money to the bank once a week, as well as liaise with the charity’s base at Glencaple.
Shifts are usually 10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm and benefits include free membership of the charity, 20 per cent discount in shops – both after being with the organisation for six months – and tea and coffee on tap.
Emma added: “If somebody’s lonely it’s quite a good way to get out to meet people and chat.”
