Dumbarton care home pushing for excellence after 'very good' inspection

Staff and management at a Dumbarton care home have been advised to push for an “excellent” grade following a “very good” recent inspection.

Crosslet House recently scored four “very goods” for supporting people’s health and wellbeing, ensuring residents needs and wishes are met, ensuring residents are safe from infection and for quality assurance.

An update on the unannounced inspection, which took place between December 13 and 14 last year, was provided to members of the audit and performance committee this week.

Members were informed that inspectors reported Crosslet as a “well managed service” with significant strengths in the care provided to residents.

Staff promoted respect while warm and friendly interactions between staff and residents, which created a homely atmosphere, were also observed during the visit.

The inspectors also highlighted the effective joint working partnership with health professionals, which had a positive impact on resident’s health and wellbeing.

It was also found that residents were well supported to maintain contact with their family and friends, as the home was working in line with the Scottish Government 'Open with Care' guidance.

They also have had the opportunity to build up links with the community including great intergenerational work with a local primary school.

There was further evidence that infection prevention and control procedures were in place and the general environment was clean, tidy, and free from any offensive odours.

Council leader Martin Rooney praised the report which “reflected” the work put in by staff and said there was now an opportunity to reach an “excellent” rating.

He said: “I think this is a first class report and it is good to see “four very goods” [in our services].

“That is obviously a reflection of the staff and management in the centre. There is obviously an opportunity to get up to an “excellent” rating.

“This is a really good report and it shows just how good our staff are in the services they provide to vulnerable older people. Well done everybody.”
